When you request assistance from CommonAccess, we may ask you to take a picture of what you see on your screen. Having visual aids will help to resolve your tickets more quickly, and can also help bridge communication gaps in an email conversation. Most devices have built-in features that allow you to easily take a screenshot in just a few steps.
Apple/ Mac OS
Entire Window
- While viewing the applicable window, select ⌘ + Shift + 4 to capture the area with the cross-hairs.
- Hit the Spacebar, a tiny camera should appear
- If this is what you want in your screenshot, click the window.
- The screenshot should save to your desktop with a date and time.
Selected Area Within Window
- While viewing the applicable section, select ⌘ + Shift + 4
- Move the cross-hairs to the top right corner of the area you want to select
- Drag your cursor down and to the right until the area you want to be shown is within the selected area
- Release the cursor
- The screenshot should save to your desktop with a date and time.
Windows
- Open up your snipping tool from the Start menu
- Type Snipping Tool into the search box, select program from results list
- In the Snipping Tool window, select Mode to choose the type of screenshot you would like to take
- Use your mouse to drag the window across the area you want to be captured
- The snip will save to either your Desktop or your Downloads file on your computer
Chromebook
- Hold down Ctrl + Shift buttons at the same time.
- Press Switch Window
- Click and drag the crosshair across the area you want to be captured
- After you release the mouse, your screenshot will be saved to the Download Folder
Mobile Devices
Android
- Press and hold down the Volume Down and Power button at the same time.
- Hold for 1-2 seconds.
- Your screenshots should be saved in the Photos application in the folder Screenshots.
iOS (iPhone and iPad)
- Press and hold the Home button and the Lock button at the same time.
- The screen should momentarily flash. This indicates that the screenshot has been saved to your Camera Roll.
- Access your Photos via Saved Photos or Camera Roll.
Sending us the Screenshot
